It's a rapidly changing industry
Expectations are changing.
The combination of a shift towards green design, the introduction of Eurocodes, and more emphasis on Building Information Modelling means that structural engineers need to adopt new practices.
Consultants are under increasing pressure to deliver economical designs, along with comprehensive drawings, calculation reports, quantities for costing and even physical models for presentations and coordination with other disciplines.
Design approaches must be flexible and engineers need to be able to handle variations quickly and easily. In addition, they must keep up with the constant development of software to retain credibility and ensure that their design solutions are in line with professional indemnity requirements.
How do you keep up?
Mark Roberts, CEO of leading structural engineering software provider CSC, explains, "We're running seminars in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.
We will focus on how to use our software efficiently in order

to achieve significant design time savings and associated commercial benefits."
"We will help structural engineers in Asia to understand and adopt industry changes to increase productivity and efficiency."
CSC will explore the advantages of Design Based Structural Modelling approaches for concrete and steel buildings.
Delegates will benefit from invaluable guidance on handling the design challenges posed by today's construction environment.
CSC's Chief Engineer, Alan Rathbone, has long been associated with the research and development of design codes of practice and sits on a number of committees associated with implementing Eurocodes.
"These useful insights on the application of Eurocodes will assist engineers with the many challenges related to the imminent adoption of Eurocodes," comments Roberts.
"These topics are pertinent in today's economic climate and will enable structural engineers to offer an improved service using this knowledge," continues Roberts.
"Ultimately we want to help structural engineers in Asia adapt to new practices as easily as possible."
